Research and Fieldwork Opportunities
Psychology majors can build on classroom studies with numerous opportunities to apply principles and knowledge of psychology.
Psy 390 - Research in Psychology
Students can earn course credit (PSY 390) for participating in research
on a broad range of topics investigated by faculty members in the Department
of Psychology. Students learn to design studies, collect data, and use
computers for data reduction and analysis.

| Aim: | To provide students with supervised research experience. Students may work on a project which they have designed or may assist in ongoing research. In both cases, students must work under the supervision of a department faculty members. |
| Prerequisites: | Psy 221 & Psy 226 – Permission is required from faculty member and project supervisor. |
| Credit: | Each credit hour is 3 hours of work time each week, or 30 total hours. There is a maximum of 15 credit hours of Psy 390 work. |
| Grading: | Credit / No Credit. |

Research opportunities (Psy 390) will be advertised on the bulletin board on the first floor of Porter Hall outside of Porter 103.
Psy 489 - Fieldwork in Psychology
Students can earn course credit (PSY 489) for participating in activities
designed to serve the residents of southeastern Ohio. For students who
enjoy helping people, nearby community services and health facilities
offer supervised experience with a variety of individuals in need of assistance,
including children, the elderly, and the mentally ill. These opportunities
provide students with work experience, as well as helping them to develop
new insights and competencies.
