Graduate Admissions

To be considered for admission, we prefer that you have completed at least 27 quarter hours of psychology at the undergraduate level, including one course in statistics and one in experimental research design. Moreover, you should have an overall undergraduate grade-point average of at least 3.0 (B) and an average of at least 3.3 (B+) in psychology. These minimum GPAs are higher for clinical applicants. Applicants who have completed some graduate work should have a grade-point average of at least 3.4 in that work.

Applicants with Master's Degrees

Applicants who have earned a master's degree in another program are eligible to apply for admission into the post-master's level of our clinical and experimental doctoral programs. Applicants who are admitted post-masters are expected to spend three years on campus in doctoral work. This work is tailored to their master's training, so there is a minimum of duplication.

If you expect to have completed a master's degree by the time you enter our graduate program, please submit a description of the graduate coursework you have taken in statistics and a substantive abstract of your master's thesis. It is critical that the master's thesis be an empirical research project.

Interviews

The clinical and experimental programs conduct interviews as part of its admissions process. Our preference is that these are on-campus interviews. These interviews are by invitation and typically take place on visitation days on campus scheduled in February. Alternative interview arrangements, including telephone conferences, may be made at the discretion of the admissions committees.

For 2009, interviews will be held February 13th and 27th.
