Research Interests:

Current Research

I am currently pursuing research in three broad areas:

1. interactions among biological, psychological and sociocultural factors and their influence on primary and secondary prevention of chronic illness particularly as it relates to race/ethnicity, gender and class;

2. the impact of psychiatric comorbidity/dual diagnoses on quality of life and treatment outcome in persons with a chronic physical disability and individuals of minority status;

3. examining biospychosocial factors that predict treatment outcome (e.g. relapse, adherence to aftercare plan, etc.) in adolescents with substance use disorders.

I am currently conducting clinical research in these areas with the long-term goal of developing independent and extramurally funded lines of programmatic research that develops and evaluates culturally contextualized interventions for individuals from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds living with a chronic health problem.
