PURPOSE
The aim of this project is to give you practice in developing a training program. The general approach you will use here can be useful for developing training programs in organizations or in classroom settings.
PROCEDURE
Each student will identify a skill/knowledge that is to be learned by a college student and develop parts of a training program to teach that knowledge or skill.
WRITE-UP
Your write-up should have the following components:
1. A rationale for the training program. From the point of view of society or the organization, why are you conducting this training program? (one or two sentences should do it)
2. A specification of the gap between where trainees are prior to training and where they need to be. (Again, 1 or 2 sentences should do it)
3. An objective that describes what trainees will do after training. It must include a description of the observable behavior, the level of the behavior sought, and the conditions or constraints of the learning environment where the behavior will be observed. (1 or 2 sentences)
4. Describe the method or methods you would use in the training. Be sure to include how you will implement relevant learning principles (you should explicitly describe at least two learning principles). I do not need to know the content of the program except at a most basic level. (2 or 4 paragraphs)
5. A plan to evaluate your program (4 or 5 paragraphs)
a. What would you measure? That is, what are your observables?
b. For each observable, when and where would you measure it (pre-training, post-training, on-the-job)?
c. For each observable, who would you measure it from (experimental & control group, student or supervisor or customer or some combination)?
d. What design(s) would you use to assess the validities? You must plan to evaluate at least two levels of validity. Tie the design and set of observables to each validity.
Please keep the write-up to under 3 ½ pages, typed, double-spaced. Structure your write-up according to the outline with a liberal use of subheadings.
