Jerry is the network administrator for the department of Psychology. As such he is responsible for the computers and networks in Porter Hall and Anderson Hall. He came to O.U. in 2000 from a large law firm where he served as network administrator, programmer, paralegal and trainer for attorneys and staff. His departmental duties include maintaining and repairing several hundred PCs and Apple/MACs of various vintages, administering an ADS network joined to the campus AD domain, administering web servers and multiple websites, monitoring software licensure and versioning requirements, and training users in various aspects of computer usage, data integrity and security. He is also the webmaster for the Psych website. Jerry has designed a number of organizational and commercial websites for various entities, and frequently incorporates java- and javascript applets, cgi scripts, and various interactive elements into his designs, as the supporting infrastructure will permit. He frequently uses Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and Flash and Director, as well as Adobe's Freehand and JASC's PaintShop Pro in site development. His favorite HTML editor continues to be Notepad. Jerry's college responsibilities include development of a college-wide web-based asset management application, assisting with administration of the CAS ADS domain controllers and network services, development of the CAS Computer Use Policy, maintaining a college-wide web resource for CAS IT staff, writing various scripts for ease of network administration, and monitoring Windows-based security concerns and patch management. He is also heading up an interdisciplinary team composed of faculty, administrators and IT staff from various segments across campus to develop Tablet PC technologies for the classroom and lab. In this role he also serves as a beta tester for Microsoft in Tablet PC OS and applications development. Jerry is conversant with PCs back to the Atari/Amiga/IBM XT days, and is reasonably familar with such programming languages as BASIC, Visual Basic, HTML and its cognates, cgi scripts and JavaScript, VBscript and JAVA applets. He is proficient in ASP and PHP programming and MySQL and Access database administration and development. He's currently improving his knowledge of C++, XML, and other languages commonly used in web development. |
